The difference between Real pixel LED Screen and Virtual pixel LED Screen
General introduction
Generally speaking, in a real pixel LED screen, each pixel consists of 1 red, 1 green and 1 blue LED. However some real pixel displays use 2 lower output red LEDs per pixel to work as one. In a virtual pixel LED screen, each pixel consists of 2 red, 1 green, and 1 blue LED. Each LED is shared by the contiguous 4 pixels. So if a screen has 1R,1G,1B LED per pixel it is definitely not virtual pixel LED screen however not all LED screens consisting of 4 LEDs per pixel 2R, 1G,1B are virtual pixel LED screen. Image processing technology needs to be written into the driver IC chips and software of the screen for virtual to work.

Virtual pixel technology
Virtual pixel technology is mainly used for full color LED screen to enhance the sharpness and show better image or video, it is realized by making each LED screen be shared by the 4 contiguous pixels at the same time, instead of being shared by 1 pixel only in real pixel LED screen.
With the virtual pixel technology, we can use the same number of pixels to display sharper image or video than on the same size and pixel pitch real pixel LED screens. Theoretically to show the same sharpness video with real pixel LED screen, we need only 1/4 area of the corresponding virtual pixel LED screen. In another word, on the same size LED screen, the sharpness with the virtual pixel technology is 4 times as good as with real pixel technology.
But it is concluded from our actual experience, the sharpness of virtual pixel LED screen is 1.6-1.7 times as good as of real pixel LED screen.
The difference between virtual pixel LED screen and real pixel LED screen:
Physical arrangement
Generally speaking, in real pixel LED screen, each pixel consists of 1 red, 1 green and 1 blue LEDs. Although all the pixels are placed in average distance, not all the LEDs are placed in average distance. It is evident to tell one pixel from another pixel.
In virtual pixel LED screen, each pixel consists of 2 red, 1 green, and 1 blue LEDs. All the LEDs are placed in average distance. Each LED is shared by the contiguous 4 pixels.
So there is an easy way to distinguish virtual pixel LED screen by the physical appearance is to see if the pixel consists of 4 LEDs (2R1G1B), and if all the LEDs are placed in average distance.

Resolution effect
In real pixel LED screen, each LED is shared by 1 pixel only, but in virtual pixel LED screen, each LED is shared by 4 pixels at the same time, with the image process technology combined, the resolution of virtual pixel LED screen is theoretically improved 4 times as high as of real pixel LED screen.
But when showing the texts, the LED can't be shared by 4 pixels at the same time; the sharpness turns back to the same with on real pixel LED screen.
Real pixel LED Screen VS Virtual pixel LED Screen
There are some controversies on advantage of real pixel LED Screen and virtual pixel LED Screen, but the choice of both still depends on specific project in terms of screen size, viewing distance, budget, operating cost and maintenance, etc. Below are some comparisons between real pixel LED Screen and virtual pixel Screen based on a PH20 LED screen at size of 3,84m wide x 2,88m high, hope it provides you with some suggestions on choice of real pixel LED screen and virtual pixel LED screen.

Note:
1 - Pixel pitch 20mm in virtual pixel LED Screen is a physical pitch size, virtually it is 10mm;
2 -Pixel density of PH20 LED screen is 2500 pixels/㎡, but its virtual pixel density is 2500 pixels/㎡ x 4;
3 - Power consumption of real pixel PH20 LED screen is less than that of virtual PH20 LED screen is due to less quantity of driving ICs in module;
4 -Image quality of PH20 LED screen at this size still depends on viewing distance, there will be no difference between PH20 real pixel LED screen and PH20 virtual pixel LED screen when viewing distance is over 30 - 50 meters, but when viewing distance is less than 20 meters, image quality of PH20 virtual pixel LED screen is still better than that of PH20 real pixel LED screen;
5 -Screen lifetime will be decided by how people will use the LED screen, the screen life time in above form is based on same working time and same working environment.
